Tandheelkundige implantaten

Het implantaat is een schroefvormige titanium structuur die aan de kaak is bevestigd om ontbrekende tanden te vervangen. Titanium implantaten worden gebruikt omdat ze goed hechten met de titanium kaak en de hoogste mate van sterkte bieden. Implantaten zijn een veelgevraagde procedure, omdat ze de enige permanente oplossing zijn om ontbrekende tanden te vervangen.

Patiënten met ontbrekende tanden kunnen problemen krijgen zoals niet kunnen kauwen en spraakstoornissen. Het kan ook botverlies veroorzaken op de lege plaats waar de tand ontbreekt. Aangezien vóór elke procedure een cone beam CT wordt uitgevoerd, wordt gecontroleerd op botverlies en als er sprake is van botverlies, is een bot transplantaat vereist voordat implantaten worden geplaatst.

Patiënten met gezond tandvlees, kaken en botten die implantaten kunnen ondersteunen, zullen baat hebben bij de procedure, maar patiënten die radiotherapie in het hoofd-halsgebied hebben ondergaan, kunnen niet profiteren van deze procedure.

Zijn implantaten riskant?

Zoals bij elke behandeling, zijn er enkele kleine risico’s, zoals onjuiste hoek, onjuiste positionering, zenuwbeschadiging, bloeding tijdens de procedure, vorming van bot gaten op de implantatieplaats en botverlies in de onderkaak. Omdat we echter met de beste tandartsen werken, worden deze risico’s aanzienlijk verminderd en hebben we een zeer hoog slagingspercentage. Na implantatie is het belangrijk dat patiënten hun mondhygiëne handhaven en het gebied rond het implantaat regelmatig schoonmaken om infectie te voorkomen.
