Una corona dental es un tipo de tapa que cubre todo el diente de un paciente. Una corona está hecha de porcelana, metal o una combinación de porcelana y metal y se fija al diente dentro de la boca del paciente.

¿Cuándo se necesita una corona?

Las coronas se aplican cuando el diente no puede tratarse con restauraciones normales, como empastes. Las coronas se utilizan con frecuencia cuando el diente se ha visto comprometido debido a un tratamiento de conducto o sometido a una restauración más grande, como para reparar dientes rotos, cariados y dañados. Las coronas también se aplican para mejorar la apariencia del propio diente del paciente.

¿Qué implica un ajuste de corona?

Durante la colocación de una corona, el diente viejo del paciente debe perforarse hasta obtener una pequeña forma de clavija para garantizar que la corona quede bien fijada.

Cada forma y tamaño de corona se adapta a los requisitos del paciente, ya que se toma un molde del diente del paciente y luego se envía al laboratorio para su preparación. Esto asegura una corona perfectamente ajustada que parece dientes reales.
