Dental Crowns
A dental crown is a type of cap that covers the entire tooth of a patient. A crown is either made from porcelain, metal, or a combination of porcelain and metal and is fixed on the tooth inside the patient’s mouth.
When is a crown needed?
Crowns are applied when the tooth can’t be treated with normal restorations such as fillings. Crowns are frequently used when the tooth has been compromised due to root canal treatment or undergoing a larger restoration, such as to fix broken teeth, decayed and damaged tooth. Crowns are also applied to improve the appearance of a patient’s own tooth.
What does a crown fitting involve?
During the fitting of a crown, the patient’s old tooth must be drilled down to a small peg like shape to ensure the crown will be securely fixed on to
Each crown shape and size are bespoke to the patient’s requirements as a mould of the patient’s tooth is taken then sent off to the lab to be prepared. This ensures a perfectly fitted crown which looks like real teeth.
